The following are descriptions of the services that are provided:

SUBSTANTIVE EDITING and STYLISTIC EDITING

Clarifying and/or reorganizing a manuscript for content and structure. Changes are suggested to or drafted for the author and negotiations are discussed through email.

Clarifying meaning, eliminating jargon, smoothing language and transitions, and substantial correcting of grammar, spelling, and/or syntax. May include checking or correcting reading level; recasting tables and/or figures; negotiating changes with author.

COPY EDITING

Editing for grammar, spelling, punctuation and other mechanics of style; checking for consistency of mechanics and internal consistency of facts. May include Canadianizing; metrication; providing or changing system of citations; writing or editing captions and/or credit lines; writing running heads. May also include negotiating changes with author.

PROOFREADING

This stage applies to documents that have already been through an editing process. Checking for typographical errors, spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors. Includes correcting style inconsistencies, issues with page numbering, formatting, captions, and spacing.
